DESCRIPTION
This module looks at specifying wood – particularly outdoors – and how to ensure it will both last and satisfy fire safety and Building Regulations. It sets out how wood deteriorates, but then goes on to show how good treatment and preservation can maximise the life of wood. Through a combination of case studies and illustrations it also covers environmental and regulatory issues.
AIMS
To understand how to specify wood, particularly outdoors, and adhere to fire safety and Building Regulations.
OBJECTIVES
By the end of the module, you will:
- know about the need for preservation;
- know about how wood deteriorates;
- be familiar with the types of preservatives;
- understand the environmental benefits of wood;
- be aware of the regulations surrounding preservatives;
- understand fire protection preservatives; and see stunning case studies.
